Movie Rewind - Christine
February 26th 2007 09:03
Hi Everyone
Thought I would do a quick review on a movie that was on tv the other night, it's an oldie but underated classic. The movie is called Christine and based on a novel by Stephen King.
Tag Line: She'll possess you. Then destroy you. She's death on wheels. She's... more
Plot Outline: A nerdish boy buys a strange car with a evil mind of its own and his nature starts to change to reflect it.
1983, Christine opened up on the big screen, changing how the public viewed movies. Horror no longer required a hockey mask or a 'really big kitchen knife,' but a sleek white-over-red beauty.
To cast the film's title character, ads were placed across the country offering to buy any available 1958 Plymouth Furys. $500,000 later, the filmmakers were the proud owners of 23 vintage autos, all of which were cutomized to look exactly alike.
Now there are a few sites around on the net with heaps of info, so wont bore you with all the details as I know you all like to go exploring yourselves. But given the year it came out, it is a pretty good movie and has a great rock n roll soundtrack too. Some of the instrumental music almost sounds like it was done by the great 80s group Tangerine Dream, who did the soundtracks to Near Dark, The Keep and many others although both these films were underated and pretty sure Micheal Mann directed the The Keep, which is based on Paul F Wilsons book ( by the way any of his books are good to read).
So if you want to see something different that hasn't got ultra violence, swearing etc then rent this out one night, as well worth a revisit.
For overseas readers, it's been a very hot day in Christchurch, someone said it had got to 32?? But it was a very hot ride home.
Thought for the day 'No good is higher than truth and compassion'

"Christine" is an oldy but a goody - I remember watching it as a teenager and enjoying it... (well, by enjoying it I mean it was a tense and scary movie!).
