Trans Alpine Cycle, the story so far

Hi everyone
This will be just a quick update, train journey to Greymouth was great, with some awesome photos taken and we arrived to nice sunshine. Next day started off wet but soon turned out alright, although fell off bike while crossing a road rail bridge, pesky rail tracks, we made a quick stop to Kumara beach and where the Coast to Coast starts, then it was heading in land to Otira. My bike bike speedo showed 95kms by the time we reached Otira and it felt like it too.
Not long after we arrived it started to rain and by the middle of the night, I was being woken up by strong gusts of wind and the rain hitting the window. Morning brought the same horizontal rain as we made our way up the gorge. Not 4kms into the ride I got a flattie, so had to fix that in the driving rain, no mean feat when your bike is fully loaded!
I cant stand steep climbs on a bike and in wet gusy conditions this was a real pain. Finally reached the viaduct which was a bit hairy to cross due to vicious gusty cross winds.
Finally reached the Arthur's Pass summit at 952 mtrs and made a quick descent into the village and our place ofr the night. Oh hot shower felt so good and it was only then that I realised that the rain had got into my phone, so been drying that out.
Tomorrow is 80 kms from Arthur's Pass through to Springfield and there could well be a Southerly hit (not good) Anyway I now know why most people do this in summer!!
Full report when I get back to Chch
