The Week That Was News Review
August 21st 2007 07:32
Now there was an interesting article in the Saturday Press regarding Kate and Gerry McCann, who you recall had their daughter Madeleine snatched while on holiday. As of yet the case is unsolved but it seems that bloggers are deciding that they are fair game for attack.
This has got so bad that their local paper had to ban visitors from the website from commenting due to the nature and venomous comments left. Its pretty sad really when people hide behind their computer screens saying basically nasty things about a couple who have suffered enough I would have thought without people trying to get their 15 mins of fame at their expense.
It seems people are saying they should be prosecuted for leaving the child alone, and the reporter makes a good point asking the question 'Has none of their accusers ever done something similar?''
Maybe the problem is that they care so much for their daughter that they won't go quietly?
Well good on them I say for fighting to be heard in this crazy world of sound bites, here today and gone tomorrow news articles.
I would suggest the bloggers who have too much time on their hands to maybe focus on people who drink and drive with their kids in the car or maybe people who jump red lights etc.
Who knows I might be leaving myself open for bloggers to criticize on my comments but so be it. Myself I try never to write something on here I wouldn't say to that persons face.
What else?
We had fun and games here in Christchurch on Friday arvo when some small homemade bombs exploded around the city. Luckily only one person was slightly hurt and it appears that something like dry ice was put into plastic coke bottles that then expanded quickly causing it to explode with a bang. At the time I was walking through the central city at about 4pm and it was well grid locked, with part of Litchfield St blocked off while the bomb squad attended. Oh and there was a bank robbery that arvo too so bit of a busy day for the police.
