Movie Rewind - Hot Fuzz
April 9th 2007 02:02
Hi everyone
Saw the movie Hot Fuzz last night starring Simon Pegg ( Shaun of the Dead)
Plot Synopsis:
Nicholas Angel is the finest cop London has to offer, with an arrest record 400% higher than any other officer on the force. He's so good, he makes everyone else look bad. As a result, Angel's superiors send him to a place where his talents won't be quite so embarrassing - the sleepy and seemingly crime-free village of Sandford. Once there, he is partnered with the well-meaning but overeager police officer Danny Butterman. The son of amiable Police Chief Frank Butterman, Danny is a huge action movie fan and believes his new big-city partner might just be a real-life "bad boy," and his chance to experience the life of gunfights and car chases he so longs for. Angel is quick to dismiss this as childish fantasy and Danny's puppy-like enthusiasm only adds to Angel's growing frustration. However, as a series of grisly accidents rocks the village, Angel is convinced that Sandford is not what it seems and as the intrigue deepens, Danny's dreams of explosive, high-octane, car-chasing, gunfighting, all-out action seem more and more like a reality. It's time for these small-town cops to break out some big-city justice. Written by Rogue Pictures (net sourced)
I really enjoyed this movie for a couple of reasons, firstly it was filmed in the UK, so I could identify with the locations and secondly it was tongue in cheek everyday police action with good old British humour thrown in. The some of the situations Nicholas finds himself in and how his fellow officers are portrayed, for one reason or another I can also identify with, so the end result was alot of laughing at their comments, banter and attitudes.
Hmm this brings back memories
Every so often a familar face would appear in a camo role, like Bill Nighy, Steve Coogan, Jim Broadbent and Timothy Dalton etc. This film pays tribute to the action cop movies of the 80s & 90s with many great scenes that get you thinking, wasn't that in? But again as I mentioned in the review of Night Watch, it's great to watch a movie that hasn't been filmed in a back lot of L.A or in the desert close by. Pretty much most of the external shots were filmed in the village of Wells, Somerset, UK and there is plenty of info on the net for anyone interested?
So the end result is a great movie with good acting, pacing and humour and if you haven't seen it yet, then dash down your local movie plex and catch it before it finishes. Also I haven't seen Shaun of the Dead yet but it will be on my list to see after watching this, but then that brings me to one thing I wasn't expecting in Hot Fuzz and that was the gory scenes, which were interesting to say the least!
Movie rating 8/10

I want to see this badly but haven't gotten the chance yet. High on my to see list. Hopefully it'll be as good as everyone is saying.
Cheers,

Interestingly enough, Wells is actually a city (the smallest city in England). Having spent a lot of time in Somerset when I was in the UK, I loved all the scenes on location.
