Plot synopsis
Poppy (Sally Hawkins) is a 30-year-old Londoner with a bright outlook on life. She loves her job, she loves her friends, she loves her freedom. Mike Leigh's new film follows her over a few weeks one spring as she learns to drive and embarks on a new romance.

At first glance this isn't the kind of movie that I would normally make an effort to go and see but was treated by a friend and it was refreshing to see something just off the mainstream movie making
.
Set mostly in Camden, London, this follows Poppy, who comes over as one of those ditzy but very likeable people that we all know somewhere. Her jokes with a grumpy shop assistant or the drunken nights in a disco are all things we can indentify with or have even done ourselves.
Her sunny almost blind optimisim could start to make you question, if in fact something is wrong with the way we view things, but as the movie progresses, you start to realise that Poppy isn't the sheltered soul we thought at first and you see a real caring and understanding side of her.
Although its when she starts to learn to drive and her repressed driving instructor firmly comments on his narrow view of things then you see another side of her character.
Overall I would say more of a chick flick than generally a guys movie although, the acting, characterisation, direction and locations made it an enjoyable movie.
