Ford Cortina Feast
October 23rd 2007 07:57
I was out and about on Sunday and after visiting the Riccarton market I saw a collection of different Ford Cortinas gathering together and if anyone has read one of my previous posts, then you will know that I have a soft spot for this car.
The first car I saw was a very rare 2 door Mk4. These if I recall correctly were available in the UK between 1977, replacing the Mk3 and 1980 when the first Mk5 came out. This is a great example and its owner advised he had owned it since he was 21.
This a Mk1 Cortina station wagon in very tidy condition although can't recall the year they came out.
This is the classic Mk3 with the 70's styling, I have heard a couple of stories regarding the styling. The first is that the curves were modeled on a woman lying on a beach sunbathing and the second that it was based on the curves of the old glass coke bottles? As this was the 70's either of them could be true. They did bring out a couple of different models with a large single round head lamp, then the twin head lamps, followed by square headlamps.
My fave is the twin headlamps and I would love a mint condition one of these, just so retro its cool!
Now this and the next were rare beasts indeed, a couple of Lotus Cortinas, something you don't see that often.

So seeing these old cars were a little bit of a blast from the past but its great that they are still around to take you back to when driving was an adventure and you knew that you were driving a car.
