Easter MTB Ride with photos
April 7th 2007 08:46
Hello again
As mentioned previously about my up and coming trans- alpine cycle ride in 2 months time, this weekend was a great opportunity to test the bikes fully loaded with gear to see how everything worked. This is getting to be a pretty cool trip as I am using rear pannier bags, where as my mate Stevo has built himself a bike trailer.
Spot the missing parts?

Now I have to say, it takes alot to impress me but I was very impressed by the effort and how well the trailer turned out, an awsome effort and it held up very well today.

Well the weather today was really crap, wet driving drizzle but it would be a good test of our gear to findout what works and what doesn't as travelling from Greymouth during June, we are more than likely to get wet.
The trip up Hackthorne rd and Dyers Pass rd was pretty straight forward although, we warmed up very quickly.
As we cycled past Victoria Park, the clouds were pretty low and you can see this in the photos on previous post Christchurch Weather Eye, by this time we were getting pretty damp, with gloves wet through and fleece beany wet also, and as we got closer to the Sigh of the Kiwi cafe, the wind got quite a bit cooler too. Trying to keep your feet dry is a tough one, I had water proof leggings on and also had my tramping gaters on underneath but even with all that and plastic bags over my feet, by the end of the day, they were wet and cold.
Lunch time was taken under the shelter of trees by Sugarloaf
It was wet and cold along the summit road, with descents giving us a bit of windchill, so will have to work on that when in the Alps and whizzing down Porters Pass, although I did hit 65km down Evans Pass towards Sumner, where we stopped for a coffee and a pie.
Overall a good 60km ride in wet condtions and most equipment worked okay although since I've got in, been feeling like I have caught bit of a chill??
Thats all for now.

I hope you feel better and it was just a passing chill nothing more serious. Looks like you are set... going to certainly be a wonderful adventure!
