Coast to Coast, NZ final day
June 12th 2007 08:04
Springfield to Christchurch.
Once again we were lucky with the weather and as I looked outside at 7.30, a lovely sunrise was forming, so collecting my camera gear, I walked quickly to the railway station and found some good vantage points.

Morning sunrise
Smylies YHA, Springfield
We left the YHA about 10am and in between the time I was up taking photos, to the time we left, the weather had turned pretty chilly with a cool SW breeze. As we made our way back towards Chch, we decided to head down the Old West Coast Rd as this would be more sheltered from the wind and not so busy either.
I must say after the dramatic scenery, I found the long straights a little boring as you would finish one, turn a corner and there would be another,. halfway through the day, my speedo gave up the ghost, so we had no idea of how far we had to go? But eventually we reached the outskirts of Chch
We cut through the outer suburbs, heading towards North Beach and my house, so from Kumara Beach on the West coast to North Beach on the East, we had gone coast to coast.

Well the trip was now over, it was a long way to cycle but pleased that we done it and we were so lucky with the weather and it was great to have the time to really enjoy and take in the stunning scenic vistas that are the Southern Alps, cant beat cycle touring really.
Now for our next trip???????
