Cricket- Black Caps Vs England, AMI Stadium, Christchurch- Black Caps Innings

February 23rd 2008 10:53

Black Caps innings

Ryder & McCullum opened the batting for the Black Caps, with Anderson opening the bowling, 3rd ball LBW shout although umpire not impressed, 1 wide from the over too.

Sidebottom opens the bowling at the other end to McCullum at 11/0 after 3 overs and 4 wides by anderson, run rate reaches 6 at 26/0 when only 4.7 is required. The opening Black Caps started to easily plunder the sloppy and poor bowling, with the four sign appearing on the score board all too often for the poms.

40/0 at 5.2 overs before a change of bowler to Broad, first ball a 4 due to a misfield, there was a hard attempt to cacth McCullum but he was dropped.

Second missed/dropped chance with Mccullum and he makes the poms pay for it.

two 6s in a row, massive hits into the Paul Kelly Stand

As Anderson gave McCullum gift balls to slug, the crowd started chanting 'Bring back Bangladesh, we want a challenge'

Ryder then got run out, but showed character/sportsmanship by walking before the 3rd umpire had made a decision.

Jamie How in at 103/1 off 11.2 overs, M-has bowls and slows the run rate down with tight, thoughtful bowling.
118/2, McCullum gone bowled.

188/2 Taylor int to bat and at 134/2 a runner leaps onto the field before being tackled and led away ( see next post for good pics)

The poms had some woeful misfields and there was a big cheer when the fielder stopped it the next time.

147/3 How out and Styris is in into bat

Scoreboard still ticking over nicely before Styris is out at 196/4, Flynn is in, then Flynn is out for a duck and the crowd is getting excited. Oram comes in, then Oram is bowled and its Game On again.

Vettori came into bat and not long after, it started to rain quite hard with the Black Caps on 201/6.

With rain stopping play, the Duckworth-Lewis system came into play, so the Black Caps won by 34 runs and it was a well deserved win as they just played much better than the English. McCullen was the hero of the match and the kiwis win the series 3-1.
