The match kicked off at 2pm to a full house, sunshine with England put into bat first.
Paul Kelly Stand
The Black Cap opening bowlers captured an early wicket of Mustard with good tight bowling giving little away apart from the odd quick single. Some stability was brought into the English innings by Pieterson & Cook, before Cook was caught LBW. Collingwood in next and halfway through the 50 over match the score was 109/3.
Vettori then bowled a couple of really good overs that brought the run rate down to 3.98
A run out attempt through excellent fielding got the crowd all excited.
The English started to raise the run rate by some very quick running between the wickets before Patel came on and snared dangerman Pieterson into an easy catch, so the score was 120/4 with 19 overs left.
Collingwood then got stumped, leaving the score 128/5
Wright & Shah then came into play with bit of a run out scare at 129/5 but then they started to clip quite a few singles off the bowling of Patel.
Styris then came into the bowling attack and got hit for 6 first delivery
Within a short time the score was 170/5 with Shah on 20 & Wright on 25, 191/5 Wright hit a 6 before getting out next ball caught. M-has comes in and first ball slugs it for a 4, then at 201/7, Shah is caught LBW.
The score board ticked over nicely with the help of two 6s and a couple of 4s. In the last over there was another run out scare.
A misfield on the last ball allowed the English to scurry home with a total of 242/7, which is better than I expected for they were tightly controlled by the Black Cap bowlers early on and it was only in the last 10 overs or so that they started to quicken the run rate.
