Synopsis
There is nothing impossible to him who will try . . .’
Alexander the Great (356-323 BC) was 20 when he ascended to the throne of Macedon. He fought his greatest battles and conquered the seemingly invincible Persian Empire before he was 25. He died when he was 32, undefeated by any enemy. His reputation as a warrior and leader of men remains unsurpassed in the annals of history.
As immediate and gripping as bulletins from the front line and as intimate and revealing as a private diary, this thrilling historical novel is destined to become a classic (net sourced)
I would say that most people would have heard of Alexander the Great, even if its through having to watch that dreadful movie made by Oliver Stone. But I can honestly that this book is something completely different. The book is written in the first person and as the character of Alexander talks through his life, the highs and lows, with the result that you learn more about him and understand what drove him on.
The thing what I liked about this book, was the fact that everything was explained in such a way that the story kept flowing at a good pace and Alexander himself explaining to the reader as to why certain decisions are made. The leadership skills that Alexander showed in commanding his army can still be adapted and used today.
This is a gem of a book if you are into military history, very interesting with well written and researched battle scenes . Very easy to lose yourself and imagine that you are actually there when Alexander faced the Persian king Darius . Great book!!
