2006 BMW F650GS Review
May 20th 2007 06:23
Hi everyone
This post is just a quick review of the BMW F650GS that I hired from NZbike just recently.
Now I used to ride a Suzuki GS 650 shaft drive amongst other machines in the UK but have just recently rekindled my passion for riding bikes again, so after an absence of a few years, it was a real treat to ride a bike again.
My first impressions were good, everything was easy to read and all the switches were of a good size, so easy to use even with thick leather gloves on.
The model I rode also came with heated grips as standard, so good for those cold winter days.
As I am fairly tall, I found the seating position a little low but guess this would be an ideal bike for that shorter or female rider.
Not having ridden anything different recently, it would be unfair to compare how it handles, engine etc but I found it responsive when needed and over taking was pretty effortless. I found that it handled cornering well and was pretty stable in cross winds. Over 80km you did tend to get a little buffeted by the wind, although this could be due to the fairing being too small or myself just not used to it? The fuel injection gave a nice smooth power delivery through the revs and I found it all managable.
A better exhasut note would have been nice but over all a very good ride on tarseal or gravel and after 5 hours of riding during the day, I still felt pretty good.
7/10 I would give this bike and it would be ideal for a newly qualified beginner or someone returning to biking after an absence.

the combination of mountains, lakes and rivers blends perfectly for a road trip on a bike!
I used to have a 750 Honda, but I layed it down one day and barely escaped sideswiping a pick up truck!
That was enough for me lol
Glad you've rediscovered the freedom of bikes...
Great pictures!
Take care,
Nick
